How to Send an International Fax Online

Published: Updated:

Sending an international fax online starts with the recipient’s current fax number. Confirm that the organization accepts faxes at that number, then enter it in international format. Our send form checks whether the number format is valid. It does not verify that a provider can deliver to that country or specific line before payment.

Format the number

Use +[country calling code][national number]. Many countries omit a domestic trunk prefix such as 0 in international format, but there are exceptions. Italy’s fixed-line leading zero is one example. Do not apply a single zero-removal rule to every country. Use the country-code reference and verify the complete number with the recipient.

DestinationExample international formatNote
United Kingdom+44 20 ...London numbers commonly drop the domestic leading 0.
Germany+49 30 ...Berlin numbers commonly drop the domestic leading 0.
Japan+81 3 ...Tokyo numbers commonly drop the domestic leading 0.
Italy+39 06 ...Italian fixed-line numbers retain the leading 0.

These are formatting examples, not working fax numbers.

Send and check the result

  1. Confirm the recipient’s fax number and any cover-page requirements.
  2. Prepare a readable PDF or supported image and check every page.
  3. If you need to check destination coverage before paying, email help@onetimefax.com with the country and country calling code. Provider coverage can vary, so a calling-code list is not a supported-country list.
  4. Open the send form and enter the full number with its country code. Passing number validation checks the format only.
  5. Review the page count and total before paying. Onetime Fax charges $5 for up to 100 pages, then $0.05 per additional page, for supported destinations.
  6. Check the final delivered or failed status. Payment and upload completion do not establish delivery. If a paid web fax fails, the status page offers a number correction and retry when eligible, or a refund choice. See the failure and refund guide.

Transmission time depends on the recipient’s line, the document, and the route. If the fax is urgent, ask the recipient when someone can process it and how they will acknowledge receipt. A delivered status does not prove that a particular person read it.

Sensitive documents

Check the recipient’s instructions and your organization’s requirements before using fax for medical, legal, or financial information. An online fax service is not automatically HIPAA compliant, and a secure upload does not make the whole fax route end-to-end encrypted. For U.S. covered entities using a cloud provider to handle electronic PHI, HHS describes the need for an appropriate business associate agreement. See fax security guidance.

Need the full calling code? Use the international fax country-code list. The list helps with dialing format; it does not confirm service coverage. Start a fax.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I format an international fax number?

Start with + and the country calling code, then use the destination's national number format. A domestic trunk prefix is often removed, but not always; verify the country's numbering plan.

Can I send to every country?

No. The send form validates number format, not provider coverage. If you need to check a country before paying, email help@onetimefax.com with the destination country. A country calling code alone does not establish coverage.

Does an international fax cost more on Onetime Fax?

Supported international destinations use the same $5 starting price for up to 100 pages, then $0.05 per additional page. Check the total before paying.

When will I know if the fax arrived?

Check the final delivered or failed status and email. Transmission time varies with the destination and document.
