USCIS Faxing FAQ
What to know before faxing immigration documents.
- Can I fax documents to USCIS?
- USCIS generally prefers online uploads (for MyUSCIS) or mail. However, certain case-support teams and attorneys-of-record workflows may provide fax numbers for urgent supporting documents. Always use the exact fax number and instructions provided for your case.
- How do I format a USCIS fax?
- Single PDF: cover sheet → case notice/receipt → your document(s). Include A‑Number (if applicable), receipt number, petitioner/beneficiary names, DOB, and contact info on the cover. Use 300 DPI black on white and label pages.
- Is it secure to fax immigration documents?
- Use an encrypted online fax service and avoid public Wi‑Fi. Minimize PII on the cover page and verify the destination number from official USCIS correspondence.
- When should I fax USCIS?
- Send during business hours for the service center/office handling your case. For time‑sensitive requests (RFEs/NOIDs), fax promptly and also follow the instructions in your notice.
- My USCIS fax failed. What next?
- Confirm the number and case identifiers, resend as a clean PDF, and try within business hours. If persistent, contact USCIS by the channel listed on your notice.
